游子吟

A TRAVELER’S SONG

孟郊（711-815）唐代

The thred in the hands of a fond-heartrd mother,

慈母手中线，

Makes clothes for the body of her wayward boy.

游子身上衣。

Carefully she sewa and thoroughly she mends,

临行密密缝，

Dreading the delays that will keep him late from home.

意恐迟迟归。

But how much love has the inch-long grass,

谁言寸草心，

For three spring months of the light of the sun.

报得三春晖。
